Portrait of a boat captain

I was only in the Philippines for a few days but I ended up taking a lot of pictures there. We were there primarily as tourists and so only ended up doing tourist-y things and taking those kinds of pictures, but I tried my best to take interesting photos beyond the snapshot memories. Unfortunately, my shyness still serves as a considerable barrier to taking pictures of strangers, particularly up close.

That being said, I managed to take this photo after visiting a nice resort area that required taking a boat to get to and from it. Of importance for my photography, this was not cropped. Granted it’s not an in-your-face photo where the subject is looking into the camera, but it was a photo that I worked the scene for a bit and waited until the lighting was right so I’m happy about that. Hopefully this will become more of a habit for me as I take pictures.
